Artist Statement

This short film explores the current political issues surrounding refugees in Australia, focusing on their social rejection. It draws from my family history of persecution and migration.

I want the work to remind people that the world is not made up of rigid nationalities, nor do we want it to be. Culture is fluid and it is we who define it. Denying refugees (or any particular group of people) will not give you a comfortable way of life or a stagnant set of values, it can only give you a life filled with fear and values based on prejudice.

  • Kira Godoroja-Prieckaerts is the current Art Director for Demos. She is completing a bachelor of art/visual arts majoring in sociology as well as printmedia and drawing. She has a strong interest in the creation and control of culture.
